 Raja Balasooriya - More than your average politician , your first Mayor for Kaduwela

Dear Voters of Kaduwela Municipal Council,

It is with great pleasure that I inform you that I am your mayoral candidate nominated by the United National Party to represent you in the newly instituted Municipal Council for the election to be held on 23 July 2011. I will be contesting under the elephant symbol and with number 18 against my name.

Most of you in the area know me personally, yet, i do take this as an opportunity to mention my long association with the area and some of the highlights of my political career.

I was born and raised in Malabe area and had my education at Ananda Shathralaya Kotte. Even to date i live in the area amongst you with my wife and two children, accounting for more than XX years in the area. Since my teenage day I had a keen interest to serve the public to improve their quality of life. Starting from grass roots levels I have travelled through my journey as your member of then Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha (1994-1999) and then as your and later at the Western Provincial Council (1999 – 2004).

During this tenure I was able to deliver many projects to the benefit of Kaduwela community. These included many important initiatives in Health, Education, Roads, and Electricity & Water. Additionally I have focused on delivery many projects that will help you and your family, our children, youth, women and elderly. I have enclosed details of these projects for your reference .These are some of the very many ways in which I worked tirelessly to serve the people in the Kaduwela area.

I am a member of the Lions Club of Thalangama Malabe 306C and work in the capacity of Chief Co-oridnator- Community Development. This has been a great platform for me to work with the professionals of the area and channel their contribution for the well being of Kaduwela constituents and many social initiatives.

But there is more to be done…..

1.             We are at a critical juncture where we now require transforming ourselves into a Municipality. We have to build an administrative structure accountable to the public with transparency in administrative procedures.  This will prevent wastage and corruption of public fund ensuring every rupee is spent on development of the area and for the public wellbeing. I will be working closely with all my fellow members of municipal council irrespective of party politics. We will also be tapping into the expertise of other well run councils to build a strong foundation for the future.

2.             Involve professional in developing the area with Public – Private Sector partnerships. In particular we can facilitate further private investments into the booming education industry of the area by providing corporate and individual with hassle free entry into the area with timely council approvals and no political interference. Many local business such as providing student education, recreational facilities could be built around these investments

3.             Further build on my track record on efficient delivery of Health, Education, Roadways & public amenity projects. The following projects are currently identified and we will ensure all areas of Kaduwela will be give preference. Also I will be seeking your views and ideas as always.

4.             I will create an environment where people of Kaduwela can enjoy the prosperity of the area with peace of mind. I will protect the law and order of the area and will allow the police and law enforcement authorities to discharge their duties without fear or favor.

 

You as a ratepayer and citizen of Kaduwela deserve to be served right with dedication and commitment in a transparent manner. I wish to seek your vote at the forthcoming municipal election as your representative and look forward to serving you.
